Our portfolio companies operate conscious of their impact on society, the environment, and the communities in which we operate.
Founded in Boston by Peter Brooke, Advent International began with a team of five. Under Peter’s leadership, the business aimed to build a first of its kind international investment platform, with growth aspirations beyond the US.
1985
Advent’s first fund was raised, allowing the Advent team to pursue investments in both the US and internationally.
1987
Our Boston-based team raised the International Network Fund, Advent’s first major institutional fund and the private equity industry’s first global fund.
1989
Raised our European Special Situations fund, the private equity industry’s first integrated pan-European fund, as we sought to invest more heavily across the European continent.
Opened our London office, our first international office, allowing Advent to have a physical, dedicated presence in Europe.
1991
Opened our Frankfurt office – our first office on the European continent – allowing us to be on the ground with compelling management teams, entrepreneurs, and founders.
1996
We raised our first Latin American (LAPEF) private equity fund, allowing Advent to make direct investments in the region.
Opened our Mexico City office, representing our first office in Latin America.
1997
Raised GPE III, marking the third GPE fund for Advent globally.
Opened our Paris and São Paulo offices, reinforcing our role in Europe and Latin America, and commitment to both regions.
2009
Commemorated our 25th anniversary and Advent’s growth across regions, driven by our commitment to build sustainable companies in partnership with management teams at our portfolio companies.
2012
Raised GPE VII, the largest buyout fund launched and closed since the start of the financial crisis in September 2008, underscoring the strength of our investment thesis.
2019
Raised Advent Tech, our first fund focused exclusively on technology investments, and opened our Palo Alto office, in recognition of the growing role of technology across industries and throughout potential portfolio companies.
2022
Raised GPE X, reaching $25bn in commitments from institutional investors worldwide. The fund reached its hard cap of $25bn in commitments in less than six months in the market.
Today
We’re proud to be one of the largest and most experienced global private equity investors, with more than 315 investment professionals across 13 countries. Our extensive, deep sub-sector experience and collaborative approach allows us to identify differentiated businesses and work hand in hand with management teams. We manage USD $91b* across developed and emerging markets in 430 private equity transactions across 44 countries.
