What inspires you most about your work at Advent?
I love understanding what makes people and companies thrive. This is an extraordinarily varied job, giving you the opportunity to look at many different industries and businesses. You get to assess some of the most impressive people in the world and understand what they’re doing. You talk to founders and entrepreneurs who have built amazing things from scratch, starting out in their basements.
How does the wider Advent network help you make better decisions at AGO?
There are many ways to successfully invest, but having the correct building blocks and freedom of thought is common across great firms. At Advent Global Opportunities, we major in access to information. Being part of a private equity firm with 40 years of history, a global presence, deep specialism, and collaboration is the foundation upon which we were built.
Can you talk about Advent’s culture of collaboration?
Advent is a firm that has a culture of collaboration and diversity of thought. Having a smart investment team and a resource advantage alone is not enough. People are busy, and you cannot fake a culture of collaboration. We aim to have low-ego, open-minded team players who are passionate about investing. This enables us to fully integrate with our global colleagues, and encourages lively debate in a flat, consensus-driven environment.
Outside work, what do you do to stay energized?
I’m a very active person, and I keep up my fitness by doing a lot of sports. I’m keen on sailing, wing foiling, hiking, and golf. Just getting out there and being active is the best way to reset and clear your mind – although having two young children has put a stop to some of that!
