20 November 2006, Paris - The global private equity group Advent International and its partner-stakeholders RTL-Group and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners today announced an agreement to sell Europe’s leading sports marketing group SPORTFIVE to Lagardère. The companies signed a binding contract, which still must be approved by the anti-cartel authorities. The purchase price amounts to EUR 865 million.
Advent International purchased SPORTFIVE in 2004 together with the RTL Group and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners and has held a majority stake in the company ever since.

SPORTFIVE, which operates worldwide, is the sole agency authorised to market European TV rights for European football tournament UEFA EURO 2008™.
Georg Stratenwerth, General Manager of Advent International Frankfurt, said: “SPORTFIVE has enjoyed above-average growth in recent years. The company has greatly expanded its portfolio of marketing and sports rights contracts whilst further strengthening its market position. The future owner Lagardère will continue to pursue the chosen course of growth.”
Philip Cordes, CEO Germany and International TV, SPORTFIVE Group comments: “We are very glad to have Lagardère as a strategic investor, who will work with us in continuing to develop the successful business model of SPORTFIVE. The strategic orientation of the new owner is conducive to making us even more successful in the sports rights market whilst continuing to expand our portfolio”.
