15 March 2011, Paris - Advent International, the global private equity firm, today announced that Bernard Bourigeaud has joined Advent as an Operating Partner.  He will advise the firm on investment opportunities and supporting portfolio companies in the business and financial services sectors, including technology.  In this role, he will draw on his entrepreneurial expertise and his broad experience in mergers, acquisitions and restructurings.

Bernard Bourigeaud is a successful entrepreneur with extensive financial and operational experience including restructurings, bolt-on acquisitions and building global businesses, the largest of which was Atos Origin, which he founded.

Bernard Bourigeaud has been involved in a number of successful mergers since 1991, when he conducted the merger of SITB, Sodinforg and Segin to create Axime, of which he became chairman.  In 1996 he was responsible for Axime’s acquisition of Sligos and the subsequent formation of Atos, where he became chairman and CEO. In November 2000 he merged Atos with Origin, a subsidiary of Royal Philips Electronics in the Netherlands, creating Atos Origin. In 2002 he completed the acquisition of KPMG Consulting in the UK and the Netherlands, now operating in these two countries under the name of Atos Consulting. In 2003 Bernard Bourigeaud then led Atos Origin’s acquisition of SchlumbergerSema to create a leading global IT services company.  Finally, in 2006 he completed the acquisition of Banksys and BCC (Bank Card Company), creating a leading role in Europe for Atos Origin in the payments industry.

Bernard Bourigeaud resigned as Chairman and CEO of Atos Origin at the end of September 2007.  At the time, Atos Origin had a turnover of 5.6 billion euros and employed over 55 000 people in over 50 countries.

Prior to joining Axime, Bernard Bourigeaud spent 11 years at Deloitte Haskins and Sells where he headed the management consulting group, then oversaw all French operations.  For eight years preceding this he worked for the agribusiness company Continental Grain, carrying out various general management assignments in Europe, during which time he spent five years in the UK.  Bernard Bourigeaud’s career began with the French bank, CIC, and Price Waterhouse.

In January 2008 Bernard Bourigeaud established his own CEO to CEO consultancy business under the name of BJB Consulting. He is also a private investor in technology companies across Europe.

Bernard Bourigeaud holds positions on several boards of listed companies: CGI in Canada, Amadeus in Spain and Adva Optical in Germany.  He is an Affiliate Professor at HEC School of Management in Paris and a member of HEC’s International Advisory Board, as well as an advisor to the National Committee of French Foreign Trade (CNCCEF).

Bernard Bourigeaud was recently appointed President of CEPS (Centre d'Etude et Prospective Stratégique), an international and independent think tank originating in France, after serving three years on the board. In 2004 he was appointed Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.

Pascal Stefani, Managing Director of Advent International in France, said: “We are very happy to welcome Bernard Bourigeaud to our Operating Partner Programme.  Advent is an active investor across the world in sectors in which Bernard Bourigeaud holds an unparalleled expertise.  With his experience as the founder of one of the world’s largest IT services groups, Bernard will be a precious aid in strengthening our capacity to detect opportunities, supporting our portfolio companies across the world and inspiring their management.”

Bernard Bourigeaud added, “I am delighted to formalise this partnership with Advent International, following our work together on Monext, a process which enabled me to measure the operational expertise of Advent and its ability to efficiently utilise its Operating Partners.  The international presence and global strategy of Advent across their 18 offices was a determining factor in my decision, as well as the ambitions of the team in the technology, business and financial services sectors.”
