Gérard Darel is a leading French designer and retailer of mid to high-end women’s ready-to-wear clothing.
Gérard Darel employs some 600 people and has a distribution network covering more than 40 countries. Benefitting from a strongly positioned brand in the 'classical ready-to-wear' segment, the company generated sales of around €158 million in 2007. The business has successfully moved from a pure wholesale to a multi-channel model with 111 retail points which generate 56% of the turnover.
Advent and the existing management team will focus on strengthening Gérard Darel's competitiveness internationally, through accelerating the number of own-stores in Europe and partnerships in the Middle East and Asia. The highly successful leather goods and accessories range, which accounts for 12% of the sales, will be more widely distributed and diversified. In 2008, the company introduced the up-and-coming American actress Mamie Gummer, daughter of Meryl Streep and Don Gummer, as the new face of the company, establishing its appeal as an international brand.
