In 2011, Advent International signed an agreement to invest in American Heart of Poland S.A. (AHP), a leading operator of cardiovascular treatment units in Poland.
AHP Clinics were established in 2000 as an initiative of a group of prominent doctors from Poland and the United States. The idea behind the clinics was to introduce state-of-the-art cardiovascular therapy solutions in Poland and ensure 24 hour access to facilities treating myocardial infarctions (heart attacks). AHP’s greatest success to date has been creating a network of catheterization laboratories separated from large academic centres where there are big deficiencies in diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
AHP continuously strives to build a bigger network of clinics whilst increasing the range and scope of cardiovascular services and treatments offered: from medical advice, through diagnosis and treatment to cardiac rehabilitation. The Group now has more than 20 fully equipped clinics, including a department of cardiothoracic surgery with a hybrid operating theatre that meets the highest international standards. In 2012 more than 20,000 patients were treated in AHP clinics.
Polish cardiology still needs further investment because cardiovascular diseases are responsible for nearly half of all deaths in Poland. Advent’s involvement enables the AHP Group to implement their comprehensive approach to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and continually increase the availability of highly specialized services in Poland.
